As the number of widows and single mothers increases in Israel, the body of Messiah is also experiencing an increased burden. In our congregation we have 25 widows and single mothers, some of them are new immigrants from different countries. Many are broken hearted and feel abandoned and lonely. They often deal with unemployment or legal issues. Our support to the single mothers is practical and financial, spiritual and emotional. We give them food coupons or help them pay their bills – according to their needs. We provide counseling, special courses and teachings. The long term help is given also by paying  their studies & help them have a profession. Our goal is to help these women know God as their father & as their children's father. "A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling." Psalm 68:5 That's where we want to lead the orphans and the widows, to the Lord’s Holy of Holies. There is an abundance of needs, most of which only He can care for.We have 20 orphans in our congregation, many of them have special needs, emotional & psychological problems and learning disabilities. We provide them counseling & therapy and help the children in their practical needs. Clothes, shoes or dentist payment – according to the need. We help them go to the summer camps where they can be built up in their faith and know the Lord as their Father. Our government is not able to take care of the widows & orphans as it should. The O.T is full of commandments exhorting the nation of Israel to take care of the fatherless & widows. It also says that God will withdraw his blessings from the nation who withdraws justice from the widows (Deut 27:19). God blessed those who cared for widows but cursed those who didn’t. “The widow who is within your gates, shall come, and eat and be satisfied, that the Lord your God may bless you…” Deut 14:29. We must support the widows and the orphans and do what we can to bring their justice to the light. As believers, we want to demonstrate to them the same compassion and protection that God has for them.
